Five-star Lewes hit top gear in preparation for season opener against FAWC newcomers, Blackburn Rovers.
Lewes hosted a last-minute friendly game against FA WNL side, Gillingham. Lewes set out their attacking intent from the first whistle, playing out from the back and playing neat triangular passes through the midfield.
Attackers, Emma Jones and Katie Rood were a constant threat – piercing the Gillingham back line at will and getting their shots away. Indeed, Jones took her chances well and scored a brace, including an impressive free-kick that was fired in from 25 yards.
Gillingham grabbed a consolation goal with a well-placed penalty.
